As someone who cares about my skin, I have always searched for the perfect products for my skincare routine that should give me as perfect results as possible. I was particularly concerned with saving and protecting my skin from exposure to harmful light – both from the sun and from our screens.
Turns out Volition Beauty was exactly what I needed and along with the Daily Defense Duo, this skincare line proves just how positive their products are.
About Volition Beauty
Volition Beauty was founded in 2015 by Brandy Hoffman. Affiliated with Sephora USA, Sephora Canda, Cult Beauty and Mecca Cosmetics, it is a brand that is highly regarded by many people around the world.
Something particularly special about this brand is that their Submit an Idea campaign allows anyone to submit a suggestion for a product to be created for the brand and if it receives a positive number of surveys and passes with the brand, it will become a reality !
Volition is also committed to never formulating with toxic ingredients – and that includes a long list of no-no’s like:
Aluminum, aluminum salts, BHA and BHT, benzophenone, buxtoxyethanol, coal tar, ethanolamines, formaldehyde, hydroquinone, lead and lead acetate, mercury, methylcellosolve, methoxyethanol, methylchloroisothiazolinone, microbeads, mineral oil, nitrates, oxybenzone, parabens, phthalates, resoricinol, retinyl palmitate, styrene and petroleum jelly, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, talc, toluene, triclosan, and triclocarbon

The importance of light protection
I was so excited to try the brand’s Daily Defense Duo which had received so much praise and also because light protection is important to keep your skin healthy.
The sun, while a vital source of life, can also be incredibly harmful. Too much exposure can cause UV rays to damage internal skin. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, sunscreen should be worn every day, as it can help:
Reduce your risk of skin cancers and skin precancers. Regular daily use of SPF 15 sunscreen can reduce your risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by about 40% and reduce your risk of melanoma by 50%.
Helps prevent premature skin aging caused by the sun, including wrinkles, sagging and age spots.
Another source of light damage that many are shocked to hear about is blue light. It’s emitted by devices like your phone or laptop, even the one you’re looking at right now. According to Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University,
Blue light is closest to invisible ultraviolet light on the color spectrum. Ultraviolet light has the shortest wavelength and is known to be dangerous. It can burn the skin in the form of sunburn and lead to cancer. Ultraviolet rays can also burn your eyes, especially the cornea, and lead to eye diseases such as snow blindness or welders cornea. Research also suggests and has a role in cataract formation. We know less about blue light because its effects are still being researched. But because blue light is close to the spectrum of ultraviolet light, it has caused alarm and is on the radar of ophthalmologists.
The Prismatic Light Shield
Saying I was amazed isn’t enough – I’m so in love with this sunscreen. I don’t like my oily, gooey, gooey sunscreen – the feeling of a thick oily mush just gives me the shit.
But with the Prismatic Luminizing Shield, I loved how incredibly light it was. It was simple not to have the white smear of sunscreen on your face, but not too thin. With application it felt a little matte, and definitely not greasy, which I was incredibly happy to find! There was a slight sheen and shimmer, which I thought added a nice touch. The smell was nothing dramatic, just a faint smell of something good.
To use, Volition recommends: “Shake well. Apply all over face 30 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply at least every 2 hours or as needed. Can be worn alone or under makeup. Use water-resistant sunscreen when sweating or swimming.”

Screen Time Hydra Mist
I totally loved this mist and found it to be different from your standard cream/block based light protection treatment. According to Volition Beauty, its benefits include:
– Helps with blue light emitted by devices
– Hydrates and nourishes
– Helps minimize the appearance of photoaging
– Reduces the appearance of stressed skin
More often than I would like, I am in front of my camera. Not just to stare at my phone, but with the added virtual schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic, it looks like I’ll be spending even more hours in front of the screen. This mist has helped ensure that my skin will stay safe and nourished.
Made with Sunflower Extract and Marigold Flower Extract, this mist will leave your skin glowing and minimize fine lines from photoaging.
The Screen Time Hydra-Mist definitely gave me the oily feel, although it wasn’t sticky at all – it was more of a hydrating, soft tone and didn’t cause any breakouts. I would definitely say it would be perfect for sensitive and stressed skin. Give your face some love!

Overall review
My favorite aspect of the brand was their own method of creating soft products. Too many lines use harsh chemicals which is awfully harsh on your face, but with Volition I felt safe and confident in my ability to defend my skin from the daily light I see.
I found the items not too expensive and would give it a rave review for its value. Volition deserves the hype – and your skin needs its value!
To shop the duo
The Daily Defense Duo retails for US$45, which is available here on Volition’s site. As stated, “These are your skincare guards. It’s double protection against UVA/UVB and HEV rays. It’s a fluid SPF with an illuminating finish and a nourishing, blue light protective mist for too much screen time.”
Carry on!
