With ever-changing styles and new trends constantly taking the fashion world by storm, classic pieces can easily be overlooked. However, fashion is cyclical; what happens, is bound to return and there are quintessential looks that will forever remain iconic.
Each passing year and season marks the longevity of fashion; with the 70s introducing bohemian flared pants and rowdy tie-dyes, and the 80s inventing punk fashion with lots of leather and even more perms. Within each of these eras there are pieces that have remained in style and have been rewritten into the culture of today’s society.
Here are some of the classic trends that have persisted in all their glory and remained in vogue.
Midi-Skirts
The decade of the 1950s brought circular skirts (as well as the new “midi skirt” fashion) into the limelight. Since then, the midi skirt has remained constant and has been revamped for the 2019 summer season. Midi skirts have taken the fashion world by storm and can be seen in every store window; Adorned with animal prints to block neon colors, there’s a midi skirt for everyone.
Neon
If you ventured to a festival last summer, you would have seen a whole sea of neon streetwear. The neon color palette was all the rage in the 90s and remains popular in 2019.
Aviator sunglasses
Chic sunglasses styles vary from season to season; however, aviator-style sunglasses have always remained in fashion. Whether it was 1936 when they first appeared on the scene, or 2019, nothing says fashion like aviator sunglasses.
animal footprint
Leopard print, zebra stripes, snakeskin and more; the animal print has remained iconic for decades and certainly still has some pizzazz. Truly back in 2018, leopard print in particular has certainly remained just as popular in 2019.
Tie Dye
Tie-dye, I think, is like Marmite. Either you are totally obsessed with it, or you absolutely despise it. Love it or hate it, tie-dye has stuck around since the ’70s and shows no signs yet of ceasing to remain an iconic print through the decades.
The little black dress
The little black dress; so iconic, One Direction wrote an entire song about it.
Karl Lagerfeld once said, “You’re never overdressed or underdressed in a little black dress” and a truer statement hasn’t been made since. Dressed up or down, the little black dress is versatile, timeless and a staple every girl needs in her wardrobe.
